Art on Display

Throughout the year, I use my office at the State House to showcase the artwork of painters and photographers and other visual artists from western Massachusetts.

From April 9th-June 22, the Association of Independent Artists will exhibit in my State House office "Facets of Western Massachusetts," a collection of wall hangings by artists:

Amy Anthony              Daniel Brown                   Don Campbell                        Judi Campbell

Cynthia Fisher           Mark Fraser                     Nancy Howell                           Kevin Lee

Annette Mackin         Robin Parsons               John Passiglia                         Nick Roosevelt

Ann St. Jean               Al Shane                         Sarah Strong                             Ed Gregory

According to the artists:

"Facets of Western Massachusetts is a show that aims to demonstrate how people and conditions here are 'different.' The art works displayed are expressions of social characteristics and environmental features of Western Massachusetts that are unique.

"For many of us, once this place is discovered, we just 'had to' put down roots here. People here often come together and are passionate about issues. Here practices like Town Meetings and projects like CISA, the Organic Trade Association, the Franklin Land Trust and various Co-operatives were founded and are practiced as the norm, not the exception.

"A story presented at a PVMA (Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association) meeting told how Western MA was the last place made during the creation process. By the time the Angel got to paint/populate this area all the creation supplies were used up and the Creator had to draw out his/her personal, private, special supplies so that creation could be completed. This is why our area is so lush, so vibrant, so alive, so different."
